Really, our most precious gift is time. And time spent with the ones we love is always time well spent. Here are some creative ways to say "Happy Holidays and I love you!" this holiday season...
Wow! I can’t believe that Thanksgiving is right around the corner. It’s one of my favorite holidays because it allows me to gather all of my favorite people around my dining table and to fill an afternoon/evening with great conversation, delicious food, and awesomely autumnal style. At the same time, prepping your dining room for this holiday can be a bit overwhelming. It’s often hard to figure out where to start. That’s why I’m sharing my dining room styling tips for your Thanksgiving Table.
Think Outside the Box (Literally OUTSIDE)
As a designer, I’m always inspired by nature—and there’s no time of year that offers more than fall. When you’re deciding on what décor to bring into your dining room, don’t be afraid to think outside the box. And I literally mean outside. For example, fallen leaves can be strung on a simple string for a beautiful banner and a selection of branches can make a charming centerpiece.
Use Dishes as Decor
Another alternative to traditional décor is the dishware you use to serve your food. Mix and match metals with raised serving platters and silverware and feature dishes with pops of fall decorations.
Spell it Out
What better way to capture the Thanksgiving spirit than by actually saying Thank You. One of the easiest ways to add autumnal flair to your dining table is by featuring cut out glittering sayings like “thankful” and “grateful” and “family.” Best of all, this is great way to get the kids involved. Cutting out felt shapes and letters, you can have them glitter, glue, and color each one to give the overall style a family-friendly touch!
When in Doubt, Texture it Out
Part of the fun of Thanksgiving is the cozy feeling that the holiday stirs up within us. Your dining table can help accentuate this feeling with a warming mixture of textures. Rustic cloth napkins on the marble surface of a table with a wooden cutting board, ceramic dishware, and a cast iron skillet make for a homey and inviting tablescape.
